Manufacture Update - Moulds
about 3 years ago – Wed, Mar 03, 2021 at 09:55:40 PM

Hi Backers,

We just recieved some screenshots from our manufactures showing the injection mould design. The image labelled 'Moulded Parts' shows the components relating to the screenshots underneath.

Current time schedule (on track for May 2021):

- 7th March: Mould design complete

- 11-15th April- FEP Approval

The timeline below is from our update sent on October 26th 2020. The green section is the milestone stated above as 'FEP Approval'.

You will see that the timeline has slipped by two weeks, but delivery estimate still remains within the month of May 2021.

Hi Backers,

Hope you are all having a great weekend!

Just a short and sweet update today (we'll provide a more in depth update next week).

Moulds are currently being machined! 💥💥 We will expect to see the first injected moulded samples in 5-6 weeks time.

Everything is on track for shipping in May 2021.

Hope you are all keeping well.

Manufacture Update
about 3 years ago – Wed, Feb 10, 2021 at 12:29:33 AM

Hi Backers,

Hope you are all keeping well.

Below shows a few select pages from the Coffeejack DFM specification. The completed document is the blueprint for all Coffeejack manufacture and assembly.

With regards to timeframe, it has taken about one week longer than expected to complete. This still keeps us within the May 2021 delivery window.

Our manufacturers are in the process of producing their DFM prototype for final approval and inspection. Again, this is all inclusive of our timeline.

It is now Chinese New Year meaning our primary manufacturers are on holiday until the end of February. Therefore we will only be producing updates regarding our progress here in the UK.

Our plans this week/next week:

  • Packaging/Graphics - Order samples
  • Preparing logistics/organising shipping data

Now manufacture is well underway, it is important that we ensure all of the underlying aspects of the project are accounted for now to eliminate any hold ups once assembly is complete. Logistics/shipping is a big part of this process.

We still receive multiple enquiries regarding this project’s progress/legitimacy. Please refer to the previous update for further explanation. Also, feel free to contact having read this update first and we will happily answer any of your questions.

Thank you

UK Prototype Approved!
over 3 years ago – Fri, Jan 15, 2021 at 11:41:05 PM

Hi Backers,

The UK prototype has been approved!

Our factory have been instructed to continue tool design based on the new geometry.

We are satisfied that the design changes made for the injection moulding tool has maintained Coffeejack's performance and reliability. Another massive milestone for production!

What happens next?

Now that we are satisfied with the final design, our factory will make their own variant to approve before cutting the moulds. Firstly, it is mandatory for the production contract. Secondly, it is important to demonstrate functionality in the production material to test their upper and lower level machining tolerances. All this is happening in parallel with the tool design so there is no time wasted.

Due to this approval, delivery is still on track for May 2020.

We will test seal efficiency to demonstrate when there is a slight variance in the dimension of plastic parts. This often occurs due to variable cooling rates post mould. Our design ensures the parts cool evenly so material shrinkage is kept to an absolute minimum. However, we must account for variance and its affect on a large production run, primarily with regards to high pressure sealing when exposed to heat.

As I was searching for some o-rings yesterday, I came across a box. It soon became apparent how much we have invested in this project. The image below shows just one of the boxes full of the most recent development rigs.

Having reached this milestone, it put a smile on my face and thought it was an image to share!

Following our last update we were humbled by the number of messages voting confidence in this project. Please know it is truly appreciated.

We cant wait to start sharing production images with you all!

Have a fantastic weekend,

Ashley and Matthew

Manufacture Update
over 3 years ago – Sun, Jan 10, 2021 at 11:01:25 PM

Hi Backers,

The UK prototype should be with us by Monday morning which is great news!

Meanwhile, we have been working with the team in China to finalise the design for cutting the metal moulds. Once we have the design parts back on Monday we can build & trial.

We will then have to perform a number of tests in order to approve the design. Once this has been achieved and assuming everything runs smoothly, we will be able to instruct the team in China to machine the moulds. This will be a big moment for the project. As per the previous updates, our work in the UK is running in parallel with the manufacturers. There are no delays incured as a result.

***Please understand we will only approve assuming the whole design works the same as it did before the essential design changes were made for the release mould***

Main risk: Functionality of Coffeejack is heavily dependent on well tolerance parts and sealing dynamics to maintain the high pressure required. Extensive development has taught us that even minor design changes can disrupt this balance, but we remain confident in the changes.

IF, the design works as it should, the whole process from that point forward should move much quicker and we will be able to provide you with better content for updates. Rest assured, we want to show juicy production images just as much as you’d like to see them!

Unlike traditional online businesses we consider this journey as being quite personal between us and our backers. We value all of you to the highest degree, much as we have towards backers for all of our previously fulfilled projects.

Many of you may have seen some comments surrounding requests for refunds and the suggestion that we could be fraudulent. We must reiterate, orders have been placed with our manufacturers and we are not able to issue refunds at this late stage. Taking actions such as this could collapse cash flow in order to complete manufacture meaning none of our backers would receive a product. It is essentially our insurance to make sure this project is delivered as promised. After all, we are not through the woods yet and our manufacturers could still encounter difficulties. If for any reason this is the case, we need funds to rectify issues and not fall into the 'horror story catalogue' of unfulfilled projects. We've completed Kickstarter projects many times before, we know what to expect and overcome challenges in a timely manor should they arise.

We appreciate the following only applies to a minority of backers, but referring to our project as a ‘scam’ is not affecting anything other than morale for both us as creators and your fellow backers. Our efforts and timelines do not change as a result of these comments given we are working at maximum capacity regardless. For a while now we have not addressed these comments but for those few individuals please consider the following:

  1. We are ambitious engineers wanting to grow Coffeejack into a much larger business. Kickstarter is a fantastic facility to ‘kickstart’ a project, not to accept its fruition when fully funded. This is just the beginning of our journey and it would be completely unintuitive to not continue its success. It would not make sense to be fraudulent even if it was within our character trait, whereby it most certainly is not.
  2. We have a proven track record as engineers and as project creators having delivered over 10 successful projects between us both.
  3. We have spent a considerable amount of money towards R&D since the project funding ended, only to make Coffeejack better. Creators who are fraudulent would only be interested in maximising profits, not investing in the project further like ourselves.
  4. The longer the project takes, the more we lose! We work on Coffeejack full time, every day. We are desperate for Coffeejack to be in your hands but this is now dependant on our manufacturers as well. Rest assured we are pushing the project forward as much as possible with them and we have a solid team behind us.
  5. When the project is fulfilled with a fantastic, well considered product, any fraudulent accusations will become null and void.

We fully understand that the above is not applicable to the majority of our highly supportive backers and towards those, we do apologise for the grumble! We thank you for your support and continued understanding.

Granted, you have all encountered a delay which has wrapped us with guilt and frustration. However, we know first hand that the design has become 10x better for it and therefore the endurance is worthwhile. Please know, we do understand frustrations and many comments are for just reason. We would feel the same!

Most importantly....

We are still on track for May 2021 delivery.

We are doing our best to bring this date forward in any way possible but this manufacture phase does take time. We will happily continue to update weekly/bi-weekly but the content will be dependent on the stage of manufacture.

The video below shows some of the details that we are refining with our manufacturers:

In the UK, we are continuing to work on DFM, packaging and planning logistics to ensure there are no delays once Coffeejack is ready for shipment.

We will update as soon as we have run some tests with the UK prototype next week.

Hope you have all had a flying start to the year!

Ashley and Matthew

p.s. Some of you may have noticed a Coffeejack project launched on Kickstarter whereby the ‘creators’ were pretending to be part of HRIBARCAIN. This was in fact a scam and has nothing to do with us. The individual/s even addressed backers using our names. Obviously, Kickstarter have now cancelled their project.

…..little rascals ;)…..
