Manufacture Update
over 3 years ago – Wed, Jan 06, 2021 at 08:20:55 PM

Hi Backers,

Currently we are waiting for the UK prototype parts. Today, the machinists returned to work following shutdown over the Christmas period.

Delivery schedule for these parts will be available in the next update for the following reason:

Boris Johnson has just announced (8:00pm GMT) that the UK is now back in full lockdown as per March 2020.

We are hopeful that this should not affect the schedule but we must check with the engineers first thing tomorrow morning to confirm delivery. Expect another update later this week.

The mould design is coming along well! All mould steel was ordered towards the end of last year and is ready for machining once the development is complete. We will request some images for the next update.

We hope you are all keeping safe.

Hi Backers,

We hope you all had a fantastic festive break and Happy New Year from us at Coffeejack!

We wanted to let you know that we will compose a detailed update this Monday (4th Jan).

Much like ourselves, our international factories have continued to work over the Christmas holidays so there is lots of progress to share.

Have a great weekend!

Manufacture Update
over 3 years ago – Fri, Dec 11, 2020 at 12:14:44 AM

Hi Backers,

The image below shows the new parts with added material to be cut (now at machinist's):

We are still waiting for the main body parts to return from the CNC machinists after cutting and testing the sealing faces.

Meanwhile, work continues behind the scenes for the extras so all on track as planned.

We do not want to create false promise but it looks like we possibly have some good news regarding timescale.

We may have clawed back some time by expediting one of the build phases for next year. Meaning although there has been a delay for this release mould amendment, we may still be back on track without extending the timeline. The design changes have made other areas of the mould design much simpler, hence the potential gain within the production timeframe.

We hope you have a great week and we will touch base again as soon as we receive the new parts.

Thank you

Ashley and Matthew

Manufacture Update
over 3 years ago – Sat, Nov 28, 2020 at 02:23:06 AM

Hi Backers,

The last couple of weeks have been moving in the right direction regarding manufacturers prototype for the injection mould tooling, however we were faced with a challenge for the lower section of the main body. (Please note manufacturers prototype is essential and additional to the prototypes produced internally.)

Image 1 below shows the basket bayonet section of the previously sent design.

We were informed that one of the mould tools will not be able to release from this section due to the undercut and centre water spreader section. The undercut discussed retains the water spreader mesh with an o-ring. Therefore we had to shift the inner assembly upwards, add a removable core and relocate the high pressure valve in order to make manufacture feasible (image 2).

This tooling challenge was not highlighted when we received our quotation and timeline estimate sent in our previous update. Further study with the engineers highlighted this issue and we have worked around the clock to ensure we do not affect the timeline significantly. However, given it has taken almost two weeks to rectify, we would expect this to be reflected in the timeline. We have done everything possible to expedite this approval for an essential amendment.

In order to prove this change in geometry we had to re-design the assembly, send for 3D print MJF build then send to our CNC machinists in the UK for finishing. Parts are currently being machined to apply smooth faces for all sealing parts. We should have it approved by the end of this week.

In the meantime the manufacturers continue to work on the other components of the design whereby nothing has had to change for the moulds.

Now all parts are in the hands of our manufacturers, our focus is back on the packaging for Coffeejack presentation and shipping. Please note the images below are working progress.

As per our previous update, packaging is optional. More details to follow nearer delivery.

Have a great weekend

Thank you

Ashley and Matthew

Manufacture Update
over 3 years ago – Mon, Oct 26, 2020 at 03:59:41 AM

Hi Backers,

Following our previous update we asked our manufacturers to provide a more in-depth timeline. One that reflects the individual stages of mould manufacture and gives a breakdown of each process and its timeframe.

As promised, we said we would provide you with live manufacture updates as soon as we receive them. Since the last update there have been significant advancements on the mould design and tool release structures. However, it is apparent that some areas require a higher level of complexity to the mould release system. This is the information we received last night from our manufacturers:

We sincerely apologise for this announcement as we appreciate the extended delivery is not ideal.

Your patience has been appreciated beyond belief throughout this whole process and we can only hope it continuous for the last stretch to the finish line.

We can assure you that we do not take this news lightly as we feel a great loyalty towards all of you. Hence why updates such as these are taken incredibly personally as we do not want to disappoint anyone.

We hope you appreciate that quoting the timeframes issued to us above intentionally exposes our accountability for hitting targets. We want to be honest about everything we receive from our manufacturers as we feel you all are on the journey with us. This is something we would have done at an earlier stage if the timeframes were readily available to us.

On a positive note the past few months have enabled the creation of a far superior product to the one initially advertised.

Some of the updated features:

  • Full width water spreader for better extraction
  • Larger water chamber
  • More compact design
  • Shallower basket to increase espresso yield capability
  • Safety water trap
  • Sealed chamber for improved hygiene
  • Improved Sealing and reliability
  • New valves to improve maintenance
  • Pressure Regulation
  • Increased basket capacity
  • Custom grip
  • Narrower basket to fit a wider variety of mugs
  • Anti-Drip valves
  • Custom filters
  • New Locking Mechanism
  • Soft place rubber
  • Thicker wall structures
  • New Packaging (see below)
  • Instruction manual (see below)

And many more…

As many of you already know, delays such as these are not uncommon for crowdfunded projects. After all, its far from the regular online shopping experience. We like to think that the reward and exclusivity from crowdfunded projects outweigh the wait (in most cases where the creator prioritises quality over project completion).

Although the pandemic is a significant attribute to the delay, it is not the main cause.

Primarily, it sparked our decision to utilise the lockdown period (duration unknown at the time) to create a better product and admittedly this has impacted the delivery. Despite the delay, upon reflection we have no regrets given that the product you will receive is going to exceed expectation and this has always been our main goal.

How will we use the time from now onwards?

Quite simply, development of our Coffeejack brand/product range slows down the longer we wait for production. The extended timeline is bad news for us too but we will be pushing to hit targets.

That being said, rest assured we will not be releasing anymore projects until we have fulfilled our promise to you all. We want Coffeejack in your hands more than anything!

We have set aside the following months to focus on premium Coffeejack packaging, instruction manuals and completing manufacture for the add on items.

We have received requests to opt out of packaging in the past for environmental reasons. For those uninterested in packaging we will happily donate our manufacture cost to an environmental charity.

As always, Coffeejack will be the very thing we live and breathe every day. On occasion we have received comments suggesting we have not started on the project or that it is a scam. This is far from the case as I am sure the majority appreciate. Although we are overjoyed with the support, the sheer scale of the project has brought challenges to overcome and we are facing them head on with full focus.

We really hope we have your understanding and continued support. Its very difficult to address everyone individually and we genuinely care what you think so we encourage you to like/not like this post/comment and we will do our best to address your feedback. It gives us a means of communication even if we cant individually message everyone.

We will be pushing for frequent updates ourselves to then pass on to you all, coupled with images/videos wherever possible.

Thank you

Ashley and Matthew
