We hope you’ve had a great week!
Below is an overview of what we have been working on over the last couple of weeks in addition to our last update.
The increased water spreader design has now been tooled and we are waiting for the prototype approval. As many of you already know, we have worked with our manufacturers in China for a number of years. They are highly trusted and produce goods to an exceptionally high standard. Unfortunately, the difficulty we are currently faced with is some manufacture and export. The devastating Coronavirus has had a knock on affect and we are experiencing delays, much like many other businesses.
At the moment, we do not know how this will affect the overall timeline of this project but we are being proactive in our approach. Any component prototyping/testing is now being carried out in the UK whilst we work on alternatives with regards to manufacture and end of line logistics.
We have also bought back some time by investing in a 3D printer to time effectively approve the design changes.
The custom valves are being produced in Denmark and have been approved. The basket valve mentioned in the previous update is purely to prevent any drips during transit. It is incredibly light and activates under a tiny amount of pressure. This does not mean the design has changed to become a pressurised portafilter, the functionality remains the same.
From backer feedback we are pleased to say that we have made some fantastic design changes to optimise the overall functionality and longevity of COFFEEJACK. This unpreventable delay is incredibly frustrating but we are utilising this time to further optimise the design.

CoffeeJack Weekly Update

Hello Backers,
We’ve certainly had a very positive and productive week on all things CoffeeJack related. Super excited to share some of the improvements we’ve made. We also have some fantastic collaborations in the pipeline. The reason for these design improvements; and not going straight into production is that we feel that we can almost deliver (what would normally be) V2 as your V1. Our background in Design Engineering allows us to test prototypes and improve the design much faster than many other creators. Also, the huge success of the campaign has created an enormous amount of focus to deliver an exceptional product.
Improvement 1. The increased diameter of the water spreader.
As you can see from the image below, this improved base will increase the distribution of water and provide an even base for tampering. It will also remove any visible fixings from the entire product.

Improvement 2. New basket valve
This is a new feature that will mean baskets when transported will be completely sealed to the atmosphere, preserving your coffee for longer. It also means that when you’ve finished pumping your coffee, no small drops will leak out of the basket.
Improvement 3. New valves.
We’re currently in discussion with a valve manufacturer (they make medical/food grade valves) to produce bespoke internal valves to meet our high specifications. Very early discussions but will have a full update next week - looks very promising for increased performance!
The modifications listed above add manufacturing cost onto each CoffeeJack but we feel so strongly about creating a perfect product that the design must come before making a profit. We hope everyone enjoys hearing our thought process behind the design improvements.

The surveys are sent in batches so don't worry, if it hasn’t arrived already, it will arrive shortly. There you will be able to input your delivery address (which can be updated nearer fulfilment if required).
